Six people were killed and 15 injured in a blast in Mehrauli market in New Delhi [Images] on Saturday. the blast took place at 2.15 pm. According to reports, two men in a motorbike placed a tiffin box outside an electronic shop in the area.Fire engines and ambulances have rushed to the spot. The shops in the locality have been shut down.

While the Delhi police refuses to confirm the number of dead or injured victims, those who live in Ward No. 8 at Mehrauli claimed that at least six persons were killed in the blast.

According to eye-witnesses, two men riding on a motorcycle dropped a black polythene bag in the market area and left. The bag exploded within minutes, killing three people on the spot while three more succumbed to their injuries later. Six injured victims are reportedly in a critical condition.

Delhi has been put on high alert. The injured have been taken to AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital.
