Member of Parliament from Kadapa YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has resigned from the Congress Party. Jagan along with his mother YS Vijayamma has submitted their resignations today. This is the first step fired by Jagan Mohan Reddy who is on his way to launch his own party. Jagan Mohan Reddy resigned as the Member of Parliament, while Vijayamma resigned as Congress MLA from Pulivendula Assembly seat. He faxed his resignation letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar which has been accepted by the Speaker. Unofficial reports say that Jagan has the backing of at least 5 MPs.

Vivekananda Reddy said every Congressman was hurt with the attacks on Sonia Gandhi in a one-hour programme and sought to suggest that Jagan may not have been aware of this.

Politicals analysts felt, that for the 38-year-old son of former Chief Minister Y S R Reddy, who has been aspiring to become the CM, the increasing isolation may push him into breaking away from Congress and forming a new party.

Now that Kiran Reddy has taken over as the New Chief Minister and Jagan's dreams of becoming the chief minister cut short, he has decided to resign from the party and Lok Sabha.

Jagan's Open Letter

Jagan while resigning from the Party Membership, released a 5-page Open letter to Congress President Ms. Sonia Gandhi, which he has released to the media. In the Open letter, Jagan mentioned the circumstances under which he resigned from the party. Jagan accused that he has been repeatedly insulted by the AICC in the last 14 months since the demise of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. Jagan also appealed to the MLA's not to resign, however, many of the Jagan supporters in the party are expected to submit their resignations later today. About 18 MLAs and MLCs are known to be in Jagan's camp.

Jagan alleged that the AICC has been trying to create a wedge in their family by luring his uncle YS Vivekananda Reddy with a Minister post. "Why did you create division in the family? What crime had we committed?", Jagan said. "I and my mother are resigning from the primary membership of the Congress Party. After going through all this, we have no other option,". "You tried to isolate me hence I am going alone. I appeal to my followers not to resign,"

Jagan said that the Congress High Command has given a differential treatment to him. He cited the examples of PRP President Chiranjeevi and MLC Vivekananda Reddy getting an appointment with Sonia Gandhi almost instantly while he has to wait for many days.
